Share Your Home is run by "concerned Louisiana professionals" who are providing means to volunteer housing either through their website or by calling a toll free number. They are especially interested in volunteers from the Shreveport area, but are set up for nationwide offers. They have corporate sponsorship, but are not reporting links to other relief agencies.

KatrinaHome is run by a private developer to help match housing providers and seekers. Potential hosts can sign up using their webform, and are able to update their information. KatrinaHome matches people through the site, and also provides phone number lists of potential donors to verified emergency care workers on the scene.

This site is mainly a broker for placing rental property ads. They have opened a section for those who have open rental units that want to donate them to people displaced by the hurricane. They are only offering the posting space, and are not directly connecting offers with those seeking them.

Homes for Katrina is run by a private web developer and his wife. This site allows users to offer housing, and does background checks using a company called Intelius to screen for offers that might be dangerous for hurricane victims. The site creators also report working with the Red Cross to verify the status of Katrina survivors. Potential hosts sign up using an email address.

Hurricane Housing connects people who need free housing with those that have it through email. Housing offers are not made public, and are removed from the pool when filled. Potential hosts sign up using a web form. MoveOn.org is a liberal political group, but their coordination of housing appears to be separate from their advocacy agenda.

This site is the largest effort at the present time, and is referred to by both HUD and FEMA as a good location to find temporary housing. Craigslist is a site that usually provides classified ads for many areas across the U.S. These listings are a mix of free housing offers and offers to rent housing. The format of housing offers is a long discussion list through which Craigslist members make offers.
